Today at Court I saw a kid who I remembered seeing last week. He was in custody and was arraigned for assault. When he got called the victim came forward. The "alleged" victim was an 8 year old (or so) boy with a black eye and bruises on his face and one across his nose. He stood there with his mom. The defendant is only 18 years old. The judge looked at his record, and saw it was a child victim and set bail at $15,000. That's as high as for a serious felony. It was insane. I don't know what the defendant did what he did. What's sad is that I felt worse for the defendant than the victim. The defendant is probably going to jail for a long time. His life is in bad shape. The victim will heal, but who will take care of the defendant? It's a very sad situation.
