I'm an Elitist

I was thinking today about how annoyed I am by service industry employees who are REALLY into their jobs. Like the Burger King employee who is just so happy to be there, and follows the rules by the book. It really annoys me. But why? I should be happy that she's doing her job well and seems to enjoy it. More people should be like that. Am I an elitist because I think that unless you have a "real" job you shouldn't be happy? Maybe a little. I think it's that I've worked so hard and gone to school so long, it annoys me when people are happy in their careers without education or experience. In other words, I think "I went to school for 20 years, and this dude is happy working at Kohl's? Unfair!"

I met a guy online today (not named Andrew) who has worked for Wal-Mart for 12 years. Is that a red flag? Can someone who is supposed to be a lawyer in the next year date someone who is a cashier at Wal-Mart? I'm not saying that I'm even contemplating dating this guy for the distance alone, BUT it makes me wonder what I would do. I feel elitist and classist by saying I wouldn't. Which seems wrong. But then dating someone who works at Wal-Mart seems wrong, or at least undesireable. Does being a Wal-Mart lifer automatically convey certain personality traits that probably wouldn't mesh with mine? I'm not sure. I just found this issue resonating in my head all day.

Maybe he's an artist or a musician or something, and he just works at Wal-Mart to pay the bills. Or, maybe he's just happy working at Wal-Mart. Either way... be wary.

Doubt it would work out. I'm a hard core elitist and believe that this won't work. You're too difference and you should only go out with your own kind.
