If I Were A Blog Man

Today as I was driving down Monroe Street I had the urge to belt out "Fiddler on the Roof", the musical in which I performed my senior year of high school.

As I was singing I remember my senior prom. For some evasive reason a large group of use went to Applebee's in Jackson, which I guess is just one step up from a rival group going to Taco Bell. After dinner, my friend Cory and his date and I walked around the attached mall. A stage had been erected in the middle of the mall with a catwalk for some midwest model casting call competition. Cory mounted the stage in his tuxedo and started singing "If I were a rich man". His date and I sat in the "audience" and cheered. Suddenly, a man walking by sat at the piano next to the stage and started playing the song on the piano until Cory had finished the song. After it was over a small number of people had gathered to see the performance by the guy in the tux accompanied by piano in the middle of Westwood mall. It was one of the most spontaneous events of my life.

The lesson of that day was you're never going to have a stranger accompany you on piano if you don't start singing first.
