Pope Opposes Harry Potter Novels
Ok, I hate the Pope. It's official. The rift between the Catholic Church and me is now complete. You can hate the gays. You can cover up molestation by priests. But you cannot say that Harry Potter "deeply distort[s] Christianity in the soul"! It's just absurd. Is the Pope so far removed from humanity that he doesn't understand a good story? No children are practicing witchcraft. No children are practicing the occult. They just like a good story about an Orphan in a magical land.
I wish the Pope and the Catholic Church would regain its humanity, otherwise the church is dead, and I honestly don't believe that was the intention of Jesus or God.

I concur. But it was really easy for me to do so since I'm not Catholic.

Ditto. Ya' know, with the whole not Catholic thing.
Being a nonpracticing Catholic, I feel comfortable saying that the Pope can go eff himself or his boy servants.
Most everything the Catholic church has done in its history has been to preserve its power and authority over others. No Women priests...No Married priests...banning books and science...Bastardize children via anullments...etc.
The irony is that people continue to go to the catholic church even if they disagree and openly live a different life than what the church approves. Then every week or less frequently for some they go and pretend to listen and care about what is being said even if it is to tell them they are evil sinners. They ignore the lessons being taught and disdain those who are not in favor with the church...but who cares that they are as evil in the eyes of their own church anyway...divorce...premarital sex...lying just to suceed...these don't matter because gay marriage and women in the priesthood are sooo much worse and easier to point to.
John, well said and very, very true. It's also strange that many priests disagree with the views of the not-modern Catholic church, yet they still have to carry out the wishes of the Vatican. Especially for them, it must be difficult.
This quote makes the Pope worthwhile (well for the four seconds I laughed).
Pope Benedict XVI criticizes the Harry Potter books for being "subtle seductions" for young Christians who may be unwittingly swayed to buff their broomstick, beat their bludger or diddle with their Dumbledore.
Since the four seconds are gone, yes. I pope does an injustice to everyone, all the time. I hate him.
