It was one of those days at the PDs office. First, I got this person who I've worked with in another court before. She is so nice, and she was convicted in one court that violated her probation in another court today. I gave all this mitigation and told the judge how she's moving in a week, she scheduled her days for the other case, and I asked if she could do them all at once. He said no and put her in jail for 10 days. She was very upset. Her friend was very upset too. I was pretty upset. I didn't want that to happen.
Then I got this horrible person who is stupid. She hasn't paid most of $1000 in restitution she's required to pay. Restitution is ordered in criminal cases to compensate victims for financial loss. So if you steal something and it's not recovered, you may be required to pay the value to the victim. Or if you pass a bad check, you may be required to pay back the amount of the check to the person you wrote it to. Well, the judge pretty much told her that she didn't have to pay any more restitution and she was done. I wanted her to go to jail. I'm a good public defender.
Next I got a tranny. Yes, a tranny. As in "Tranny Get Your Gun". So I do my thing and help "her" out. I referred to him as her because he was portraying female characteristics and I thought that would be polite. So I get a continuance and the Judge goes "Counsel approach." And I'm like "fuck, what did I do" and then he proceeds to inform me that "she" is actually a he. I told him I knew but I didn't really know how to address "her", so I just went with how "she" looked. He laughed. Then we talked about why he put the nice girl in jail, and let the stupid evil girl go free. Judge Byers rocks.
Tonight I have Commercial Paper. Right now it seems interesting, but it may not be. It's all about payment systems and checks and stuff. Articles 3 & 4 of the UCC. If you don't know what that means, then you're lucky. I'll probably take Secured Transactions next semester. Whenever I asked anyone what Secured Transactions was, they would say "Article 9 of the UCC". And I'd say, "what the hell does that mean?" Now I know. And I wish I didn't.
I think this weekend I'm going to my parents. At least for part of it. I sleep really well there and I need a mini-break. Maybe I'll go out on the pontoon. Or I'll go swimming. Or I'll hunt NASCAR fans.
Oh, and I don't know any 1Ls or 2Ls. They are all weird and scary. But the Colleague and I have a crush on "Blondie". It's not a crush so much as a desire to make him our pool boy.

Beckie
Law school sucks.
Joe Lefloueuour was talking about what Sylvania is like. He said the following, in a tone that suggested that this is all you need to know -- The head prosecutor in Sylvania is in love with Ann Coulter.
