Matadors & Picadors

Katrina was awful. We all know that by now. It makes me very sad to see people suffering. It makes me angry though to see Channel 10 Action News reporters roaming the streets of New Orleans with 5000 other journalists and cameramen interviewing people who are hungry and sick and dying. Don't tell me how bad the situation is! I already know! Help them eat, escape, live! And it annoys me that companies email me and tell me to make donations. But how much are companies contributing? I think companies are in a better postion to donate than I am, but what have they given so far? It's sad that it appears that the natural disaster was bad, but the man-made disasters that followed were worse.

Justice Rehnquist is dead. I'm not really surprised. I found an interesting article by Alan Dershowitz. He feels that Rehnquist "set back liberty, equality, and human rights perhaps more than any American judge of this generation. His rise to power speaks volumes about the current state of American values." The last 30 years of the court have certainly changed the political and social landscape in the US. But will anything change with the new justices? I feel like I need more information about John Roberts. I don't know much about him or have much of an opinion. I would appreciate any opinions anyone might have.

Someone offered to be my "trophy wife" today. Rokk!

On October 8, Sarah and Jackie are gathering people together for a big huge party for the September/October birthdays. Jackie's is 9/20, Tess 9/27, mine 9/29, Mike 10/8, Sarah & Jenn 10/11. They want to rent a limo/limos and go to the bar and such. It sounds fun. My birthday is on a thursday this year. I'm trying to decide what to do. I would like to go out with the law kids on thursday, but I only have two law school friends and I don't think anyone else would come. On Friday, I was considering going out but I don't know yet. Maybe I can have a birthweek celebration. Maybe I shouldn't celebrate it at all.

I have to read for Evidence. It's the bane of my existence.

Today is Independence Day for Swaziland! Happy SwaziDay!

I found out that my sister drove to Indianapolis with her roommate for something fun to do. They left at 2am and got there at 6:30. They slept in their car at some point. People kept asking where they were from and when they told them, they bought them stuff. One bar they went to, the owner gave them a souvenir glass for free. It seems like my sister has wyles, but they didn't pass to me. Argh.

Right now I'm watching Season 2 of the OC on DVD. Sadly, I've seen the last episode of season 2 so I know what happens, I just don't know how they get there. I love the OC.

Today, on my way to the court house a man was holding a sign that said "Refugees Are Not Citizens". Of course not, then they wouldn't be refugees. I hate it when people protest and I don't know what they are protesting or advocating or even want. Does he want the refugees to become citizens? He should say so. It's like me going out on the street and saying "Cats are not People!". They're not, so what's the point. Now, if we didn't know that, maybe it would be different. Like if we went out on the street and had a sign that said "Spaghetti-os are ground up chipmunks in tomato-cheese sauce!" Yeah, we didn't know that and we could assume by that statement we don't want tomato-cheese sauce to be used. If you're going to protest, please, make what you want clear. But don't do it for me, do it for yourself.

I love your critique of the protester. I'd imagine similar things have been said about us, but our point was clear -- To give M Moore a rash. We are going out for your birthday and you have many more than 2 law school friends, we all love you.
