So today I went to leave for work and I saw my tire was flat. There was one nail in the middle and another going through the bottom, out the side of the tire. I needed a new tire. Of course, it was a rear one, not under warranty. I didn't even flinch. I went inside, found out that Discount Tire opens at 8am, then called my team leader to tell him I'd be late.
I went and got two new tires. It cost $250. Yay. They said they were really busy so it would be an hour and a half wait. I walked to a coney island nearby and ate breakfast and read almost all of my ConLaw stuff for the day, whic was good. I tipped the waitress 55% because I need some good karma.
I'm at work now. No one said anything about my lateness, which is good. What could I do? In addition to getting 4 new tires in two weeks, I almost hit two people on the way to work. I must have done something wrong. The only thing I can think of is that I've suddenly become pro-choice and I didn't even know it.
I'm still thoroughly anti-abortion, but I realized that if a woman is raped I'm not going to be the one to tell her to keep it. I still think it's not the baby's fault and she should give it up for adoption, but I'm not going to legislate that. If a baby will not survive I cannot fault the mother for not wanting to carry it to term. If a woman wants to terminate 3 pregnancies because she didn't want to use birth control, I don't want her to have an abortion, but I also don't want to draw a line between life and death. I'll leave that up to God and hope that if that woman actually killed her baby that she is divinely punished, but not by me or my government.
Who would have thought?
