Does anyone else think this sounds eerily like Vietnam?

I don't think that mandatory conscription will solve the problem in Iraq. I would have hoped that the lesson we learned from Vietnam is not to throw troops at a problem and hope it goes away.

Senator says US may need compulsory service to boost Iraq force: "'Why shouldn't we ask all of our citizens to bear some responsibility and pay some price?' Hagel said, arguing that restoring compulsory military service would force 'our citizens to understand the intensity and depth of challenges we face.'
The Nebraska Republican added that a draft, which was ended in the early 1970s, would spread the burden of military service in Iraq more equitably among various social strata. 'Those who are serving today and dying today are the middle class and lower middle class,' he observed."

I don't feel that I should bear ANY responsability for the false war, made by a falsely elected president. I also don't feel that people should die like this because the US government is too stupid to administer the creation of a new Iraq. In addition, I don't believe that a draft would select everyone fairly across all economic strata. It seems to me that like Vietnam, the rich families could easily "persuade" the selective service councils not to choose their sons.

Only 5 months until I'm inelligible for conscription. Phew!
