Today I left my phone on my nightstand all day, so I didn't get any calls. I finally checked my phone about 11pm. There was a cryptic message from my father stating that I got a registered letter from an attorney in Southfield. So I called home and no one answered, which was weird for 11pm. Then I called my mom's mobile, and no one answered. So I called my dad and he answered and it sounded like he was drunk in a bar. I asked him to go home and open the letter and tell me what it said.
Instantly, I'm panicing. I assume I'm being sued, because why else would I get a registered letter from an attorney. Of course it didn't matter that I couldn't think of why anyone would sue me. So I freaked out. I googled the lawyers name. I found him after a lot of searching. It said he did "insurance law" which seemed strange. I don't know why an insurance lawyer would contact me. The rest of his firm does workers' compensation. Strange. But I felt a little better because it meant I wasn't sued. But I still didn't know why he was contacting me. I thought he might offer me a job, but my parents address is not on my resume currently.
So my dad calls me back. He sounds drunk and can't read the subpoena. It says that I'm being called as a witness in some weird case with names I've never heard of. It says auto accident at the top though. I'm relieved because being called as a witness is not bad at all. I'm kind of excited. I think I'm going to be deposed! I've never done it before and it sounds interesting. I figure it's from the auto accident that I was in last may. I didn't know there was more than one party involved in the accident other than me. I only thought it was an SUV that flipped over after hitting me. Right now I don't know which side is calling me or who did what. I probably won't ever know. They could settle before I even have to go to the depositon.
Overall I'm relieved and now I can sleep.
