It's been a long time since I've written anything here. My birthday was excellent and I was going to recap, but I'm too tired now. Maybe I'll have a retrospective in three days.
I'm going to my parents' house on thursday night to watch their cat. They are going to Niagara on the Lake for the weekend for the George Bernard Shaw Festival. You may ask, "Your parents like GBS?" and I would reply that they didn't even know that he wrote the play "Pygmalion" upon which "My Fair Lady" is based. So, they are going with this couple that is slightly older than them. My dad met the guy at a heart transplant support group or something. Anyway, they are my parents' cultural liasons, exposing them to everything pop culture, past and present.
I think I'm fairly tuned into the world of pop culture. Not the most knowlegable but somewhat. People always expect me to know certain movies, or films, or shows, or events. I don't think I was very in tune with any of that until high school or even college. Unlike many people I know, I actually wasn't allowed to see a PG-13 movie until I was 13, or an R movie until I was in college. Seriously. So people ask, "Have you seen the Godfather movies?" Of course not! I wasn't allowed to see movies like that until college, and by then I was catching up on so many movies that there is no way I can have seen all the classics. As for music, my parents only listened to oldies and I didn't listen to modern pop music until I could drive to the record store and buy it myself. Only now do I think I have honed decent taste in music. The first CD I ever bought was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III Soundtrack. You've come a long way, baby! Anyway, my parents were not the best teachers of popular culture, because they are clueless themselves. I had no influences from older siblings or cousins or friends. So I am very proud of how in tune I have become in more recent years. Especially compared to my parents. I owe a lot of the backstory to many things to "Pop Up Video". Oh, PUV, how I miss you....
At my parents house tonight, I was watching 'Nightstalker' after 'Alias' and it was kinda creepy. It wasn't scary, just kinda creepy. Suddenly my front door flew open and filled the room with cold air. It was very scary. And then before I could close the door, i heard the coyotes baying across the street, welcoming the fall.
There is a dating site called beaver.com. Strange.
I don't understand the difference between blu-ray and hd-dvd. All I know is that one stores more data. I vote for the one with more storage. It seems like an easy decision to me.
Fantasy football is weird. Now there is a new fantasy fashion league, where you get points based on appearences of celebrities and designers and their dressers. I think there should be a fantasy comic league. Like you get a team of superheros and based on what happens in the comics during the month, you get points. I don't really know how this works, but someone should invent it.
So there was a typhoon that hit China named Longwang....
I can't decide if the new movie "Domino" looks awful or not. It doesn't help that it's a pre-holloween fall movie. Normally they suck. I hope Oscar season is better this year. I don't want some "Million Dollar Baby" crap this year. No one needs anymore Eastwood. We need prettier people.
TomKat is pregnant. Barf. Scientologists and Scientologists in training should not be allowed to reproduce.
I got called on in Evidence today. It was ok, we were doing these problems that the prof got from a Harvard test from the 40s. We're learning about hearsay right now. It sucks. Sarah, who sits next to me, did okay too. I think we were just generally concerned that hearsay makes no sense. It's weird and we're not even doing the exceptions yet. So I got one question wrong and the prof 'opened it up to everyone' and Fluffy answered the question. I hate him. I just think it's rude to answer a question someone gets wrong. Ok, not really. If it was someone else, I probably wouldn't mind as much. I just didn't like his attitude. So then later he got called on and he did ok. Then his girlfriend, who sits next to him, got called on and was struggling a little bit. She got a question wrong so the prof asked the class the answer and her boyfriend answered. He hasn't answered a question all year. I would be really mad if my boyfriend showed me up in class. The two of them sat in front of me in another class last year. They used to IM each other and I would sit behind them and read it. I guess they caught on because they started minimizing the text. Whatever, if you don't want me to read it, don't write it on your computer. I don't care that the class knows I'm watching porn in class.* Besides, it's not like their conversation was interesting. I kept waiting for the part where she told him to get a non-flowbee haircut. He never did.
Beckie sat in someone's ass warmth today. Ha!
Saturday is limo-birthday-extravadanza. Yip. I can't wait. It should be really fun. I hope we don't have to go to White Castle. It makes me nauseous just thinking about it.
Fiona Apple has a new CD. Yay. The Fugees are coming back. Boo. I got the new Decemberists CD from Jay for my birthday. Yay. It's very good. I like the last song "Angels and Angles" a lot. Jenn got me this awesome portable martini set. It is so swank and so gnash**. I love it. I don't know when I will use it. I think Jenn and I need to put on fancy dress clothes and have a picnic and drink martinis. My sister got me the Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture 2 edition. I can't wait to play it. Pop 1 was very fun.
I think its weird to see commercials for gay 900 numbers. Strange. I remember in highschool we found if you called 1-800-WARRIOR it was a gay sex line. I wonder if 1-800-ABCDEFG is still for Hooked on Phonics. *calling* It still is for Hooked on Phonics but they tell you to call different numbers "due to high call volume". I doubt that. I bet they got to many crank calls. Hey! The warrior number is the same too. Rokk.
They are opening an IKEA in Canton. I'm so excited.
I guess that's all for now. Off to sleep.
* I've never watched porn in class. I'm not Steve.
** I don't think that's a real word, but maybe I just coined it. *gong sound*

I've seen commercials for beaver.com.
There's a coupley couple at my school. They take all their classes together - last year, someone asked the girl what she was taking in the spring. She said "We're taking..." WE. They sit together in class. They work together at the legal aid clinic. They're moot court partners. It's horrifying. My friend Carla hates them. She fused their names together. They are Peachel.

P.S. My word verification was "nifmiz". That should be a real word.
The "Longwang" thing is the funniest natural disaster EVER! I was crying tears of hillarity (and sadness too, naturally) when I read it. I think it would be great of China was like, "GAGS! We just wanted to see Anderson Cooper say 'Longwang'!"
I think I'm going to go buy Fiona today. I want to be cool and say I own a dual-disc album.
No White Castle?!?!? Darn. Well, I guess we will just go home and finish off the pizza rolls and mini quiches.
Oh I'm going to White Castle damn it! I love the double cheeseburgers. mmmmm :)
I concur on the parents playing by the movie ratings rules. I watched Dirty Dancing at my best friends in junior high and hid it from my parents until...well...now because I was so scared to tell them. That best friend turned into a slut (not Heather or May) and I'm just saying, there is a correlation there. I totally forgot who fuzzy was until your discription. I can't believe they are still dating, he was my boyfriend first! Ok, he wasn't, but that's not what I hear. Katie Holmes is a virgin damn it! I love you and I loved your birthday.
*Steve doesn't watch porn in class he just plays with himself
