I Wish We All Could Win

I really like Jessica's blog. I think that her stories are so honest and charming. She should sell them.

I talked to Sarah and Jackie this weekend, which I haven't done in a very long time. It's hard to see friends suffering, through difficult times. It got me to think about why there are so many problems with relationships. Why is there so much sadness? Why is there so much anger? I've concluded that no one is honest. Everyone hides behind something. Pride. Selfishness. Fear. And so people play games. People don't treat each other with respect. Everyone is afraid that they won't win. They will get screwed over. They will be the only one to feel pain and loss. They are the only people to suffer.

I wish we all could win. I think it's possible that everyone can win. We may feel pain and we may feel loss, but that is the struggle that we must deal with. But if we act as if we are all teammates instead of adversaries, then in the end no one can lose and everyone can win. I imagine a world where everyone gets what they want, and everyone gets what they need, all at the expense of no one.

But it will take an effort from everyone. Everyone must take part. But thus human nature betrays us, for surely one or two or many will break rank for their own satisfaction and gain. Then we all lose. For as long as one person remains unhappy, no one wins. The unhappiness speads like an epidemic. So the pain becomes greater, and more magnified, until we get where we are today.

Still, I sit here and I wish we all could win.

As the Rolling Stones once sang: You can't always get what you want.
Unfortunately true because the choir sang along. Choirs never lie in rock songs.

Wow, Ryan! Thank you! You are so sweet.

And I wish we could all win too. But I do know one area of my life where I'm a winner. In the friends department! (you have to read that as a really hokey and cheesy statement but true all the same)

I win all the time. I am winning right now. I am invincible... damn... I got a "paper cut" from the keyboard.
